Coating Bend (T-Bend) Test

Purpose of Test:

Organic coatings on pre-coated sheet are subjected to stresses when fabricated into products by roll forming, brake bending, or other deformation processes. These stresses can exceed the flexibility or adhesive strength of the coating, resulting in fracture of the coating which exposes the substrate, or in the loss of adhesion of the coating to the substrate.

This test is a means of evaluating the flexibility and adhesion of organic coating when subjected to stress such as bending.

Sample is subjected to bending ranging from 0T and 5T.

The severity of the bending is defined by “T-bend”.

A “0” T bend is the most critical and 5 T is less critical
